Club MTV is a half hour television show molded after American Bandstand that aired on MTV between the years 1985 and 1992. Club MTV was part of MTV's second generation of programming when they were phasing out the original 5 VJs and introducing new ones.

MTV wanted to keep up with the Reality Television Boom that began in the late 1990s, and therefore didn't want to show videos all day. So, in the summer of 1997, what it did instead was learn how to make videos feel like programs, to hold viewers even when a bad song came on, so the new show MTV Probe filmed kids, cinema verite-style, expounding about what videos mean to their lives. In one 35-second segment, a guy explains to his friend, "You can do anything to music. You can have sex. Drive a car. It's like when I fail a test at school: I come home, I play my music, I get in a really good mood." Many of these ideas came from M2, MTV 's all-video station, and MuchMusic, the Canadian equivalent of MTV. MTV Unplugged is a 2000 Grammy Award-winning live MTV Unplugged acoustic performance by Colombian born musician Shakira released in 2000 as an album and in 2002 as a DVD. Recorded in August, 1999 in New York City, New York, it is rated as one of her best-ever live performances and paved the way for her successful English cross-over recording Laundry Service (2001). It was a critically acclaimed by American critics. in 2005 album was re-issued to promote the sales of Oral Fixation Vol. 2. To date, the album has sold over 6 million copies.
